He recounts that one night in June 1990, at a party where Michael Jackson, his producer, and musician Teddy Riley were, the idea for the song was born.

“I told the group that I had a lot of work to do. Michael was my priority, I was going to California to meet him soon and I wanted him to bring my best work," Riley said at the beginning.

The musician later met Michael Jackson again after an unexpected incident, when Riley showed him the material he was working on.

“Of course, Jackson never knew in what context he had worked on her. Weeks later, chance wanted him to baptize the song with a title that could not be more appropriate: Blood on the Dance Floor (Blood on the dance floor). It was like he prophesied that record. Él cuenta que una noche de junio de 1990, en una fiesta en dónde estaban Michael Jackson, su productor y el músico Teddy Riley nació la idea de la canción.

“Le dije al grupo que tenía mucho trabajo que hacer. Michael era mi prioridad, iba a California para encontrarme con él pronto y quería que llevara mi mejor trabajo", comentó Riley en un principio.

Después el músico se volvió a encontrar con Michael Jackson después de un inesperado incidente, cuando Riley le mostró el material en el que estaba trabajando.

“Eso sí, Jackson nunca supo en qué contexto había trabajado sobre ella. Semanas después, la casualidad quiso que bautizara la canción con un título que no podía ser más adecuado: Blood on the Dance Floor (Sangre en la pista de baile). Fue como si profetizara ese disco. Sintió el estado de ánimo", agregó el músico.
